How to Incorporate Colors into your Wardrobe

Have you ever felt that you were too busy to notice yourself? You worked so many hours, you cooked, cleaned, you were too busy to give yourself that attention it needs! you were down and didn’t know how to cheer yourself up.

One day I was sitting in my bed and as I looked across my closet’s sliding door was open. As I looked inside my closet I noticed all my clothes were black color.I was very surprised. So, I got up and opened the rest of the closet and noticed that 90% of my clothes were black with the exception of a few blouses and some dresses.

I had no idea why don’t I have more colors in my closet. So I asked myself “do I like colors”. Yes I do like colors. So which colors do I like? I started to make a list of all the bright colors. yellow, Fuchsia, White, teal, blue, red.

So why don’t I have those colors in my closet? I realized that I always heard black makes you slim and bright colors make you look bigger than your size. Even if that was true I did not like my closet. Looking at my clothes made me feel down and unhappy. So, I decided to go shopping. I wanted to change the way I think and I wanted to buy clothes that make me feel happy.

When you stop thinking about people’s opinion of you, you will start to discover yourself. Your likes and dislikes. What makes you happy and what doesn’t make you happy.co
As I was shopping I would catch myself standing in front of a black dress or blouse, so I would quickly tell myself “NO even if it is beautiful you can’t have it. It is not an option.”

It was not easy to retrain myself to think differently and to develop a new habit. It is not easy for anyone to change and this was a big shift. My shoes and sandals were mostly black because black matches with most colors.
So I bought my first red shoes with an open toe. I did my best to find the colors that match my black wardrobe. I bought a variety of colors and no repeat colors. I did not allow myself to follow a new pattern. I did not want to change my closet to all gray or all blue. So, I would not allow myself to buy two of anything of the same colors. Little by little I had sandals in blue, red, orange, beige, teal. I am still looking for white, yellow LOLs.

I walked away from black even when it was beautiful, even when it was a good deal and even when I needed it. I was determined to make that change. Today I want to say it is more important to find the perfect style for your body type and the best colors for your skin complexion. Black might be slimming but wearing colors will make you happier.

Black is practical if you work in a restaurant because it hides dirt but you will notice how many compliments you will get as you wear bright and happy colors. You will notice the smiles around you and it will put a bigger smile on your face. Learn to love yourself, the body type you have been given. Be grateful and know that you have control over your size. Heard the saying “You are what you eat”?
Changing your wardrobe will change your life and your mood and if you are looking for a professional color I say gray is the new black. It is not as dark and it will match most of the colors.
